Short answer: any time. But there are genuine seasonal factors worth knowing about.

Year-round removal is fine

Unlike temperate climates where tree work is often better in winter dormancy, Brisbane's subtropical climate means most trees can be removed any time of year. The tree removal process itself isn't season-dependent — you're removing the tree regardless of what it's doing.

Storm season considerations

Brisbane's storm season (October–March) is when tree failures happen most. If you have a tree you've been meaning to deal with, scheduling it before storm season reduces the risk of it becoming an emergency removal. Emergency callouts cost more and are harder to schedule.

Best time for pruning

For most species, pruning after flowering is best practice — it avoids cutting off the next season's flower buds. For jacaranda and poinciana: prune after flowering (late spring/early summer). For eucalypts: any time is generally fine, though avoid heavy pruning during extreme heat stress periods.

Access and weather

Access for large equipment is generally easier in dry weather. After heavy rain, soft ground can limit where a truck parks. For large jobs requiring ground-based equipment, a dry spell of 2–3 days is ideal.

Council processing times

Council permit applications submitted in December–January may take longer due to reduced staffing. If you need a permit for a summer removal, submit the application in October–November.
