Qualified Reports That BCC and Insurers Actually Accept

An arborist report is only as useful as the qualification behind it. Brisbane City Council requires reports for tree removal applications and development assessments to be prepared by a suitably qualified arborist and they check.

Our lead arborist holds an AQF Level 5 Diploma in Arboriculture. Reports we prepare are accepted by Brisbane City Council, and we provide the documentation format insurers and development assessors expect.

Report types we prepare

  • Tree removal permits — support BCC permit applications for protected trees
  • Hazard assessments — document structural defects, disease, and risk rating
  • Impact assessments — assess tree health and root zones before construction
  • Pre-purchase inspections — identify tree risks before you buy a property
  • Insurance reports — document tree condition and damage for claims

Arborist Report Questions

What is an arborist report and when do I need one?+

An arborist report is a formal written assessment of a tree's condition, health, and risk profile, prepared by a qualified arborist. You need one for: council permit applications, insurance claims following tree damage, development applications near significant trees, disputes about tree removal, and pre-purchase property inspections.

What qualification does an arborist need to write a council report?+

Brisbane City Council requires reports to be prepared by a suitably qualified arborist typically AQF Level 5 (Diploma in Arboriculture) or higher. Reports from unqualified operators are rejected. Our lead arborist holds AQF Level 5.

How much does an arborist report cost in Brisbane?+

A standard residential arborist report for a council application costs from $250–$450 for a single tree. Multiple-tree assessments or development application reports cost more. We quote once we understand the scope.

How long does it take to prepare a report?+

Most residential reports are completed within 3–5 business days of the site inspection. Development application reports may take longer depending on complexity.

Can an arborist report help me remove a protected tree?+

It can. If a protected tree poses a genuine risk to life or structures, a report documenting the hazard can support a permit application. BCC considers hazard ratings, structural defects, and proximity to occupied structures when assessing removal applications.
