Crown reduction, clearance pruning and storm-season work across Lutwyche 4030. AS4373 cuts, fixed quotes.
Lutwyche is one of those inner-north pockets where the blocks are tighter than Aspley or Bracken Ridge, the houses are closer to the boundary, and the trees were planted before anyone considered the gutter geometry. Poincianas, jacarandas, fig trees and the inevitable camphor laurel make up most of the local mix.
"Tree lopping" in Lutwyche is almost always about pruning to keep the tree off the house, off the powerline, or out of the neighbour's space. We do all of that without resorting to stub cuts — proper AS4373 work that the tree heals from cleanly.

A topped tree decays from the cut inward. Water shoots come back as a thicket of fast, weakly-attached regrowth. Within two summers the tree looks worse than it did before the work. Within five it might be a removal job.
Proper crown reduction cuts back to laterals or the collar. The tree heals. Regrowth is balanced. The work lasts years rather than months.
Lutwyche services:

Tight inner-north blocks throw up a specific pattern of work.
Poinciana close to the powerline. Energex enforces clearance distances. We can prune properly before they put a notice on your door — and our cuts will look better than theirs.
Fig pushing against the foundation. Selective canopy pruning slows root demand. Sometimes that's enough; sometimes removal is the honest answer. We'll tell you which.
Jacaranda over the fence. Directional pruning from your side handles it without the boundary discussion.
Camphor laurel in the back corner. Declared weed. No permit. We can take it out or reduce it back to something manageable.
Storm-prep deadwooding. Annual visit before storm season is one of the cheapest things you can do to protect an inner-north property.

Schedule. Most jobs within a week. Hazards prioritised.
On site. Climber and chipper. AS4373 cuts. Drop zones managed for tight blocks.
Cleanup. Chipper to truck, lawn raked, hard surfaces swept.
BCC's Natural Assets Local Law applies. Trees of certain dimensions are protected, with carve-outs for declared weeds. Major reduction work on protected trees needs a permit.
We check this before quoting and handle the application — arborist report included where needed.
Inner-north pruning needs proper rigging and proper experience working in confined spaces. We have both. AQF Level 5 lead arborist. $20M public liability. Certificate of Currency before work starts.
Lutwyche has a higher-than-average number of jobs involving trees close to overhead powerlines. The inner-north was wired before the current Energex clearance rules existed, so plenty of established jacarandas, poincianas and figs have grown up around lines that are now too close for comfort.
Here's how it actually works. Energex publishes minimum clearance distances around different voltage lines — typically 1.5 to 2.5 metres for low voltage residential lines. If your tree's inside that envelope, Energex can issue a notice requiring you to fix it, and if you don't, they'll do the work themselves and bill you. Their crews aren't arborists — the tree will end up trimmed but ugly, and you'll pay more for the privilege.
The better option is to engage a private contractor (us) to do the work properly before Energex gets involved. We coordinate with them where needed — for lines higher than low voltage, we have to call them out for a power-down or a spotter, depending on the situation.
For most Lutwyche jobs the powerline is just a factor to be managed, not a deal-breaker. We've done hundreds of jobs around lines and have the right rigging and process. The main thing is: don't put it off. Energex inspections happen periodically. A pre-emptive prune costs about the same as one done under pressure and looks significantly better.
When you send photos, include shots from the kerb that show the relationship between the tree and any nearby lines. Saves us asking, and lets us quote accurately first time.
$250–$700 for smaller pruning, $700–$2,000+ for larger reductions. Tight access on heritage blocks sometimes adds slightly. Fixed quote after photos.
For significant work on protected trees, often yes. We check before quoting and handle any application required.
