People ring up and describe a tree by its height, expecting that to settle the price. It rarely does. Two 12 metre gums, same species, same condition, two streets apart, can be a $700 job and a $2,400 job.
What separates them is everything around the tree. Can a chipper truck get within 20 metres, or is it a barrow run down the side of the house? Is there a pool, a shed, a neighbour's carport, or a colorbond fence in the drop zone? Is there room to fell it in one piece, or does a climber have to take it apart from the top down?
That last point is the big one. Felling a tree whole takes minutes. A sectional dismantle, where each limb is cut, rigged, and lowered on a rope so nothing hits anything, takes hours. Most tree removal Northside work on established suburban blocks is the second kind.
