Large tree removal is the most variable pricing category. Here's what drives the cost and what to expect.
What counts as a large tree
For pricing purposes: trees over 10m in height with a significant canopy spread. In Brisbane, this includes mature eucalypts, large camphor laurels, fig trees, brush box, tallowwood, and large ornamentals like poinciana.
Price ranges
Large removals sit at the upper end of the Brisbane range, and the spread is wide enough that a figure quoted sight-unseen is not worth much. The published bands for every size of job are set out on our Brisbane tree removal cost guide.
What matters more than the headline number is which of the four cost drivers below apply to your tree. A 12m gum in an open back paddock with gate access can cost a fraction of a 12m gum of the same species growing between a pool and a neighbour's roofline, because the second one has to come down in small sections, each piece roped and lowered rather than dropped.
That is why large trees are quoted on site, or from photographs detailed enough to show the access route. Anyone who gives you a firm price for a large tree over the phone, without seeing it, is either padding the number to cover the unknown or is about to revise it on the day.
What pushes large tree costs higher
Council permit (add $250–$450 for the report plus 5–25 business days wait time). Multiple adjacent structures requiring careful rigging. Very dense wood that slows chipping. Remote access requiring helicopter or elevated work platform. Multiple large trees in the same job.
